traditions / progressions / transgressions

Keynote Speaker: David Mott
Renowned baritone sax player, composer,
improviser and academic

David Mott's music crosses the boundaries of style, form and content from new jazz to classical, from improvised to interpretive,
from solo baritone saxophone to orchestral.

The University of Toronto Music Graduate Student Association is pleased to host our annual symposium May 4 & 5, 2011. This year's symposium highlights pathways of performing, teaching, composing, and thinking about music: honouring or (re)discovering traditions, finding innovations, and challenging established hierarchies. traditions / progressions / transgressions will be explored through three broad themes:

  • Musical communities and cultures
  • Aspects of performance, composition, scholarship
  • Technologies of music

The 2011 Symposium will feature a variety of academic and performance proposals, including performances, papers, lecture-recitals, and/or dialogues.
